Mansard Energy, based in Doncaster and serving the whole of the UK, provide MEES Guidance to help commercial landlords and property owners reach the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES). The MEES legislation was introduced in March 2015, from the original Energy Act 2011, to provide a baseline energy efficiency standard for properties across the UK.
Commercial properties, such as restaurants, offices and retail spaces must display an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in a place that is visible to tenants and the public. The EPC is designed to allow people to check the energy efficiency of a building with an easy-to-read rating of A-G, with A being the most energy efficient. The minimum standard was brought about to encourage buildings across England and Wales to reduce carbon emissions and promote a more environmentally-friendly society.

It’s crucial to adhere to the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard, as from April 2018 landlords cannot legally sell, let, lease or sublet a space with an EPC rating of F or G. If your property falls below the MEES, it’s crucial to make changes to boost the energy efficiency of your building to meet the UK guidelines and help reduce the building’s carbon emissions.
